$4.00 gasoline and the summer of hybrid love

$4.00 gasoline is almost guaranteed this summer. Now might be a good time to buy a hybrid.

Prius incentives here today, gone tomorrow if gasoline prices hit $4.00?

$5.00 per gallon fill ups on the coasts very likely

Well, it’s a good thing Americans are driving less these days. It’s a habit most Americans will probably have to exercise even more this summer, now that the Iran story is heating up and gasoline prices are pushing higher.

$4.00 per gallon gasoline this summer now seems inevitable.

Even before Iran, experts were already anticipating a $.60 increase in gasoline prices because of the summer gasoline blend switch, etc., but as the US and Europe increase their sanctions against Iran — with even India and China reducing imports — prices now seemed to destined to rise even higher. Even worse, with Iran threatening pre-emptive actions, gasoline prices could get much uglier, even if only temporarily.

Coincidentally, I caught a Toyota commercial this morning announcing financing deals on the Prius. I imagine there are probably some deals on other hybrid cars right now as well. However, if this Spring shapes up like last Spring — before the Japanese earthquake — hybrid supplies could start to dwindle. Unfortunately, limited supplies will also mean less incentives.

If you’re serious about making a hybrid purchase soon, it might be better to act sooner than rather than later. Based on recent history, making a hybrid purchase before gasoline prices spike could save hybrid buyers a lot of money.
