China denies rare earth ban on Japan

Just a precursor…a warning.

“Unofficial ban” still in place?

Last night it was reported that China had banned all rare earth metal exports to Japan, a key to hybrid cars like the Toyota Prius as well as numerous other important and critical technologies, although China immediately denied the story. Nevertheless, experts in the rare earth field suggest that an “unofficial ban” might still be in place.

Already, China has reduced exports by 72 percent for the rest of this year, and has hinted further declines in exports are possible.
