My 2009 Jetta TDI over 2400 miles has made 40.1 MPG. About half highway and not to much city driving. The Prius will do better, but for those who enjoy driving a car with decent power, gorgeous handling and for fun the TDI is the way to go; if you still want excellent MPG. It has nothing to do with making one "feel more manly" and that remark is insulting to those who really enjoy driving a sports sedan, rather than a car which is basically a kitchen appliance on wheels.
